The promised land is also a battlefield. I have been a spiritual warrior for a long time and according to my observation, it is true. Israel is a great example of this. God promised the land of milk and honey to the Israelites. If you read the Bible, you already know the story of Exodus. They spent forty years in the wilderness. Even to this day, Israel continues to fight for their right to exist. Their enemies harass them to no end. They cannot let their guard down. Do they give up and leave? Not at all. They believe God is on their side and they are going to guard their gift at all cost.
We also have our own promised land. It could be our job, marriage, family or business. A perfect mate may become a challenge or the ultimate job, a disappointment. A successful business requires long hours or the family may be dysfunctional. In whatever situation, God encourages us to persevere in the face of opposition.
James 5:11 – As you know, we count as blessed, those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance. You have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
James 12:5 – My brothers and sisters, be full of joy when you are going through a hard time. You know that this is a test of your faith and this will give you patience. Let your patience show itself in what you do. Then you will be perfect and complete and will have everything you need. But if any of you need wisdom, you should ask God for it. He is generous to everyone and will give you wisdom without criticizing you.
Prayer When Discouraged (Taken from the book, “Your Prayer Coach.”)
Elohei Yisrael Moschia – God of Israel, The Savior (Isaiah 45:15)
Psalm 27
LORD (Adonai), You are my light and my salvation, who will I fear? You are the strength of my life. Of whom will I be afraid? When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart shall not fear. I will be confident though war rises against me.
There is one thing that I desire and will seek after. Let me dwell in Your house all the days of my life, LORD (Adonai). I want to behold Your beauty and meditate in Your temple. Hide me in Your pavilion in the time of trouble and in the secret place of Your sanctuary. Set me up upon a rock.
Hear, O LORD (Adonai) when I cry with my voice. Have mercy on me and answer me.
Spirit of discouragement, come out of me in The Name of Jesus (Yeshua)!
Teach me Your way, O LORD (Adonai), and lead me in a plain path, to avoid my enemies.
Deliver me from the will of my attackers. False witnesses have risen up against me and in their every breath there is cruelty.
I believe I will see Your kindness in the land of the living. I will wait on You LORD (Adonai). I will be courageous, for You will strengthen my heart.
In Jesus’ Name (B’Shem Yeshua). Amen. References: Isaiah 45:15, Psalm 27
